CITY
(1)
This City label was the descendant
of Tony Palmer's 'City Music', from Scratby, which seems to have dropped the 'Music'
in 1973 and become just plain 'City'. The only records on
this particular City label that I have seen which dated from the 1970s
were a single by Yana, 'Tutankhamun' (CMSP-7301) and a couple of EPs,
Tony Gray's 'Route 66' (CMEPC-7301) and 'On The Road', by British
Country & Western group The New Westernaires (CMEPC-7302), all of which were from 1973. The 1980s, however, saw
several more releases; for the sake of interest I've included in the discography below
the few that I have stumbled upon. The New Westernaires were formed in 1964
by singer / guitarist Mel Hague, and they were popular on
the British Country circuit for many years. Their EP,
shown above, was pressed by Orlake; the sleeve notes say that the band was
signed to a recording contract by Tony Palmer, which indicates that
City actually issued records itself.
