COMA
Coma was owned by
successful songwriters Phil Coulter and Bill Martin, the name being derived from COulter
+ MArtin. It received its first and only mention in 'Music Week' of
the 13th of January 1979, which said that the pair had formed the label and that
its first single was planned to be by Geraldine. In the event the first
two singles, by Scotch and Geraldine, came out on the same day, the 16th of
February. Considering its owners' track record as writers of hit
songs Coma made surprisingly little impact. All of its
singles came out in 1979; there were six of them, numbered in a CUT-000 / CUT-0
series. Subsequently Martin-Coulter Enterprises went back to placing
their productions with other labels. Pressing and distribution of Coma
records were by Phonodisc, which accounts for the dull injection-moulded
label. Credit to Coma for
coming up with a distinctive company sleeve, though.
