COUNTERPOINT
A small independent company based in New Barnet, Hertfordshire. Counterpoint issued around ten records in
1972-73 before evolving into Canon Records (q.v.). Most of them were albums but happily
for the purposes of this site one of them was a 7" EP. It featured Norman
Rimmer playing three pieces on the organ of Waltham Abbey: Bach's 'Fugue in E
Flat "St. Anne"', 'Fantasy Frie Sonata No.1' by Paul Hindemith, and 'Largo, Allegro,
Aria & Two
Variations' by Michael Festing. Its catalogue number was CPT-999. As
can be seen, there were no dates on the labels, but CPT-997, an album by Jacqui
& Bridie 'At The 10th Anniversary Of The Coach House Folk Club', was from
1972, which gives us a 'Not before' date. Thanks to Gianpaolo for bringing
Counterpoint to my attention, and to Ade Macrow of the 45Cat site for permission
to use his scan here.
