COUNTRY HOUSE
A Scottish label; part of BGS Productions. In the
'70s BGS operated out of Kirkland Park Studios,
Strathaven; later they moved to Kilsyth, Glasgow. Country House lasted from before 1979 to
at least 1984; I haven't seen many of its products
listed, but of the few I have seen most have had a Scottish flavour. Albums and singles
appear to have shared the same BGC-100 (later BGC-200 and 300)
numerical series, though latterly the singles had a '7S' inserted in the
middle. This series was also used by records on BGS's other label,
BGS Chord (q.v.). There aren't many Country House records around; presumably they're
commoner north of the border than they are
down here. The earliest example I have seen listed, Steve Burns's 'Christmas
With Steve Burns' EP (BGS-166) came out in 1978, but there may
well have been earlier releases: the paucity of information on the web is astonishing.
The simple black design of the 1970s (1) was replaced by a
more complex multicoloured one in the '80s. Some 1970s records were pressed by Lyntone; the Steve
Burns single shown had a matrix number of LYN-6657. BGS Productions
are still issuing records today, under the Scotdisc imprint. The
(very!) few Country House and BGS Chord records from the '70s
that I have managed to track down are listed below. It's a dreadfully poor 'catch'
for a lot of googling. Thanks to Stephen Small for his additions to
it.
