COUNTY RECORDING SERVICE
A custom recording company from Bracknell. I have seen very few County Recording
Service records listed, but the catalogue numbers (which were usually in a COUN-000
series) reached into at least the 240s, so there must be quite a few of
them out there. The few 7" records from the '70s that I have happened upon
are listed below. Sadly none of them have had dates on them, but
a single by John Otway, 'Gypsy' b/w 'Misty Mountain' (COUN-215) is
reported as being issued in September 1972. The label itself, which
was of a very plain design, can be found coloured white with pale blue
printing. As can be seen in the first scan, which Jason Mills has
kindly supplied, some labels had no artist or title details printed on them, and
it was up to the customer to fill in the blanks if they thought it
necessary to do so. The Lyntone matrix number of the Esperanto
pronunciation record shown above, LYN-3246/7, dates it to 1976, while the
catalogue number, COUN SP-134/5, suggests the '60s - I would guess that it
is a re-pressing. The company was also responsible for EPs on the East
Anglian Magazine, Luggage (1) and Big Grunt Productions labels (q.v.
all).
