CRESS
As the label says, Cress
was based in Wallington, Surrey. It appears to have been responsible for
just the one record, an EP with a short history of Radio Nordsee International
on one side and excerpts from the station's 'final' broadcast (in September
1970) on the other - RNI went back on the air in January of the following
year. As can be seen from the picture the catalogue number was LHR RN EP-1
and the year in which the material was published was 1971. On
the only two examples I have seen pictured the purple labels appear to have been
pasted on, in one case over a white label with dinking perforations. The
image above has been assembled using components from damaged or incomplete
examples belonging to two members of the 45cat site, Henry29 and Duncand; it's
as accurate as it can be but it's not a proper scan, so bear that in mind.
The only information that I've managed to gather about Cress was that a lady
with that Christian name lived at the address given on the record. As she
wasn't born in 1971 it seems a reasonable guess that her parents were
responsible for the record label. Presumably there was a connection
between her name and that of the company, but what that connection was remains a mystery to me.
