CSS
The label of
Central Sound Studios,
of Manchester. CSS would appear to have been a custom-recording concern,
and it put records out in 1979-80. Two of them were
EPs, and were issued in 1979; they both featured people who seem to be Cabaret /
Club artists performing fairly middle-of-the-road material. CS-001 was by a band led by Terry
Reaney, the first track of
which was called 'Tally Ho'; while CS-003, shown above, was by Ivan Dupree
and contained a Billy Joel medley and
three other tracks. CS-002 was a single, 'Eastern Lady' by Rock band Snatch-Back,
which also came out in 1979. The only other records that I
have seen listed were from 1980, and they had a
CSS prefix instead of a CS one, for some reason;
two of them, singles by Harlem Spirit and Double Dealer, had a separate number for
each side. Googling has revealed no trace of CS-004, but presumably it's out there somewhere - probably
in Manchester. The only CSS record I have seen in the vinyl -
the Ivan Dupree one - was an Orlake
pressing.
