C.I. AUDIO VISUAL
Arguably not a label as such, but
as a number of packages including records were made through the company I reckon that it's entitled
to a page. C.I. Audio Visual appears to have
specialized in producing packages consisting of a booklet, a set
of colour transparencies and a vinyl EP. The earliest that I have
been able to trace was a series of six such items, 'British Wild Life'
by Dr. Maurice and Robert Burton. The records were numbered from BW-1 to BW-6,
and they covered 'The Woodlands', 'The Heath', 'The Garden', 'The Rivers',
'The Sea Shore', and 'The Marshland' in that order. The date
given for them online is January 1969. In the '70s C.I. produced at
least a couple of items for The Observer Magazine: 'The Making
Of The British: Five Invasions, 600 BC to 1066 AD' (OBS-1; 1971), and
'The New British: The British At War, 1914-1918, 1939-1945' (OBS-5; 1973). Going by
the numbers, it seems possible that there there were at
least three more Observer packages, OBSes 2 to 4, but I
haven't been able to track them down. The catalogue numbers of two packages by
John FitzMaurice Mills in his 'A History Of Art' series, HA-10 and
HA-11, again suggest that there ought to be more of those out there. I
haven't been able to put a date to that series, or to a package entitled 'Jersey In
The Making - Jersey, Son Devenir'. Any help in filling the gaps -
or indeed in listing new C.I. productions - would be welcome. Thanks to Nicholas Hough for the third scan.
