DAVEL
A small independent
label from Scotland. Davel seems to have been primarily a management
agency, run by David Forbes. It handled the affairs of Elaine Simmons, one
of the winners of the TV talent show 'New Faces'. In the wake of her
victory Elaine made an album ('The Singer Of The Song'; 2383-402) for Polydor in
1976, and she followed that up with a couple of singles, 'Try Me Again' b/w
'When The Party's Over' (2058-876; 1977), and 'Never Together' b/w 'The Singer
Of The Song' (2058-927; 1977). She also hosted a TV show in Scotland,
which was again called 'The Singer Of The Song'. Her contract with Polydor
seems not to have been renewed, but there was plainly enough interest in
her work for Davel to record and issue four more of her tracks on an
EP. The tracks concerned were cover versions of 'Angie Baby', 'Love
Hurts', Making The Best Of A Bad Situation', and 'I'm Nearly Famous',
and the EP was issued in 1979. Its catalogue number, CPEP-026, is one
of a series which appears to have been used by the custom recording department
of Radio Edinburgh Ltd (q.v.). Googling brings up no trace of any other
Davel records. Thanks to Plerner of the 45cat site for permission to use
his scan here; scans of the EP's picture cover can be found on that site .
