DIAL MUSIC
Information on Dial
Music is hard to come by. It was founded in 1976 and operated out of
premises in Grosvenor Street, London W1, under managing director Harry Paton
Evans, but what line of business it was in is
not altogether clear - it seems to have encompassed at least a management agency
and a music publisher. It
did however release at least one record, an EP by Diana Kirkwood, which featured
the tracks 'Scarborough Fair', 'Plaisir D'Amour', 'I Believe I'm Gonna Love
You', and 'Amazing Grace'. The EP came out in 1977 and was pressed by RCA.
It had a catalogue number of DM-7710, which suggests that there should be
previous Dial Music records
out there, but Googling fails to reveal any sign of them, so the '7710'
may well merely indicate the year and the month in which the record was intended
to appear. According to the sleeve Diana Kirkwood had sung a
couple of the songs on the BBC's 'Pebble Mill At One' programme,
which would be a good reason to make them commercially available. It
seems like a reasonable guess that the 'D. Williams' who produced the EP
had a role in the company, but other than that... Thanks to Sam
Mauger for bringing the label to my attention.
