DISNEYLAND SUPER 6
One of several outlets for songs from Disney films in the
1970s, others being Buena Vista, Disneyland and Disneyland Doubles (q.v.
all). Disneyland Super Six was run by budget record
company Pickwick. A licensing agreement with Pye - Disney's
licensing company at the time - led to the release of four LPs of Disney
material by Pickwick in October 1976. The venture proved successful, and
when the licensing agreement with Pye ran out in 1977 Disney signed a new
licensing deal with Pickwick ('Music Week', 13th October 1977). In
1979 Pickwick launched a seried of twenty-four six-track EPs of familiar Disney songs taken from various films; rather than all being on the same
EP, the songs from a given film were scattered throughout the
series. According to 'MW' of the 12th of May 1979 the EPs were to
be sold at the budget price of 59p each and were to appear later that
month, but in the event there seems to have been a
slight delay: 'Music Master' says that the series came out in
July. Each EP came in its own particular picture sleeve; the
label doesn't mention 'Super 6' but that's the name given
to the series above the listing on the back of the sleeves, so I've followed that naming here. Manufacturers included
Multiple Sound and RCA, while distribution was handled by Pickwick themselves.
