EEL

A small independent label, from Scotland. EEL
stood for Eastwood Entertainments Limited; most of the few EEL records
that I have seen listed have featured Dean Eastwood in one role or another,
which suggests that he was the driving force behind the
company. Stephen Small, who kindly drew the label to my attention and
provided the discographical details, reports that
Eastwood's EP 'The Modern Minstrel' (EEL-001) came out on EEL in
1973, while the single shown above, 'Proud Of Our City' by Dean and Dawn
(Westfield) was the runner-up in the 1978 Dundee Festival Song Contest.
The catalogue number of the single, CPS-018, was taken from a series used by the
Radio Edinburgh (q.v.) studios for custom recordings, and suggests that it came
out in 1978-79; the cover features a page of newspaper adverts, some of which
refer to November 1978, so perhaps early 1979 is the best bet. Eel was
still issuing records in 1987, by which time numbers had reached EEL-014.
