EPIC
/ ODE
Formed when Ode Records
linked up with CBS-subsidiary Epic, in
1977. Epic / Ode's main purpose seems to have been
as a vehicle for reissues of popular Ode albums; not much new material surfaced. It released
only a couple of singles in Britain, neither of which sold
in any great quantity. Tom Scott's 'Gotcha' b/ w 'Smoothin' On
Down' (EPC-5589) appeared in September 1977; it was followed on the 30th of December
of that year by 'Bloat On' b/w 'Just Say Right On' by Cheech & Chong
(EPC-5890). Catalogue numbers were in a series shared with the other
members of the CBS group, and the EPC prefix was the same as that used by
Epic's own singles. As can be seen, the two singles had a different
label design. A later
single, coupling Carole King's 'It's Too Late' and 'You've Got A Friend'
(EPC-7067; 3/79) came out on Epic, with Ode relegated to an additional logo on
the standard Epic label.
