FLAME (Ireland)
The sister-label to Tony
Johnson's 'Cuchulainn' label (q.v.). The headquarters of the
pair was in Derry, which qualifies them for this site, though they also
had Dublin addresses. According to 'Music
Week' of the 17th of November 1973 they had been in operation for a year
and were distributed in the North via Johnson's 'Meejay Records' company; the
article says that as well has being handled by Meejay the company had been
approached by UK distributors. Flame was the 'Pop' outlet, the more
obviously Irish material going out on Cuchulainn. Numbering of Flame
singles was in the FLM-000s; the Irish
Rock website lists an undated FLM-052, which suggests that the discography below may well be very incomplete.
Both labels seem to have concentrated more on albums in the second
half of the decade and into the early '80s. Thanks to Nicholas Hough for the scan.
