GASLIGHT
An obscure label from 1978-79. A website run by Roger Mealey
and Patrick Costello states that Gaslight - or possibly Gas Light - was
owned by London Weekend Television, and that in 1978 LWT picked up on a
Reggae-flavoured demo of a song called 'The Yob' which the pair had recorded in
1969 and released it as GAS-005. There were at least six
other singles, which are listed below. Numbering was in the GAS-000s and
one label design served throughout; the labels of the first two singles stated
that manufacture and distribution were by President. The Knuckle Dusters'
maxi-single and the Occult Punk Band's 'Happy With My Life' b/w 'Black Mass'
(GAS-001; 11/78) are both very collectable nowadays and command three-figure
sums. Thanks to Sam Mauger for bringing
the label to my attention.
