GLEN
Northern Irish, associated with Lloyd Sound Ltd., of Belfast.
Lloyd Sound started out as a recording studio in the early '60s. It was
founded by Peter Lloyd and Bo Vance, and its main claim to fame was that it was
the first studio to record Rock band Them. From the mid '70s until around
1981 it had its own record label, Glen. Catalogue numbers, which were in
an L-000 series, suggest that Glen put out five singles, but I haven't been able
to find any trace of Ls 001 or 002. On similar grounds there seem to have
been at least nine albums, which were numbered in the G-000s. Pressing of
the only Glen single that I've seen in the vinyl, 'God Rest Ye Merry' b/w 'On
Such A Night As This', by Downtown Radio presenter Candy Devine, was by Pye -
presumably its Irish factory. Glen records were distributed by Outlet in
the North of Ireland and Homespun in the South; its albums often featured
adverts for Outlet records, which suggests that there was a link between the
two. Any news of the missing singles would be welcome.
