G & G ELECTRONICS

The label of the G&G Electronics music shop and studios, of 26 James Street, Garston, Liverpool 19.  The man behind the studio, and presumably the label, was musician Tony Gaskell.  To judge by the only examples of its products that I have ever seen - a single by Tony Green, 'We Had It All' b/w 'You Know What I Mean' (G/G-1113; 1975) and an EP by The Blacks featuring 'Then I Kissed Her', 'That Look In Your Eye', 'Behind Closed Doors', 'Beautiful Sunday' and 'Bridge Over Troubled Water' (G/G-1114; 1975) - G&G appears to have been a custom recording company.  The catalogue numbers suggest that there should be other G&G records out there, but, unsurprisingly, googling hasn't revealed any of them; however, local Country music label C.M.P. (q.v.) made at least three EPs through G&G, using the numbers G/G-1011, 1012 and 1115.  It may be that numbering began at 1011, jumped from 1012 to 1113 and ended at 1115 or not much higher.  Manufacture of the Blacks EP was by Phonodisc; it ran to at least two pressings, and came in two different colours - I would guess that the first pressing was the red one, which had to have the '33' rpm handwritten on it.   The Tony Green single had an orange paper label, and had a grocer's apostrophe towards the end of the label name.  Thanks to Robert Bowes for bringing the label to my attention and supplying the red scan.
