HOLMES McDOUGALL
A publishing firm from
Edinburgh. Holmes McDougall's primary interest was - and still is - in
books, often of an educational type, but in the later '60s and early '70s
it packaged EPs with some of its publications. The labels of these
EPs don't always have the company's name on them, but in at least one case it
was featured prominently, which justifies me giving the company a page on this
site. As the scan indicates, the EP offered selections from a Holmes McDougall
hymn book, sung by children from Hill View Junior School, Sunderland, and
it came out in 1973. The catalogue number, PC-088, was one of a series
used by Procaudio (q.v.), and the metalwork was done by Pye, while the matrix
numbers, LYN-3073/74, indicate that Lyntone did the actual pressing. The
cover of the company's 'Family Of Man' (PC-065/066; 1972), from a series called
'Words In Words', suggests that other booklets in that series
also came with EPs, but there's no confirmatory evidence online.
The booklets were: 'Dream Island', 'Beasts And Birds', 'Town Family',
'Countryside', 'Into Space', 'Growing Up', and 'Myths And Legends'. Other
Holmes McDougall records can be found on the 'Career' and 'Craigie College Language Project' pages.
