HONKY
TONK

Honky Tonk Records was based in Boscombe,
at 802 B, Christchurch Road. It issued at least a couple of 7"
records, both of them EPs, in 1978-79. As well as the one shown
above, Hippo's 'They Can't Hear Me' (HTEP-45; 1979), which Robert Bowes - who
kindly supplied the scan - describes as having Punk leanings, on the 'A' side at
least, there was 'Stand By Your Love', by Raw Deal (HTEP-44;
1978). The catalogue numbers suggest that there should have been a
lot of other Honky Tonk releases, but if there were, there is no sign of them on
Google. The EP format and the rarity of Honky Tonk's products point
to it being one of the many custom recording labels that were around in the
1970s. The Hippo EP was recorded at Arny's Shack (q.v.). Thanks to
Simon Rockingham for supplying much of the information about the
company that this page contains.
