HTV CYMRU
The record label of the
TV company. HTV Cymru started out in 1968 as Harlech Television and
changed its name in the spring of 1970. In the '70s and '80s it was
involved in several record releases but it seems only to have got its logo on
their labels twice. Fortunately for the purposes of this site, one of them
was from 1974. What I assume were two episodes from the children's
series 'Miri Mawr' came out on the Sain label with a HTV logo added; 'Byta
Allan' was on one side and ''Steddfod' on the other, and the catalogue number
was SAIN-49 E (1). HTV only appeared as a label in its own right in 1984,
when it was responsible for a single which offered 'O 'Steddfod I 'Steddfod' by
Caryl Parry Jones and Huw Edward Jones on one side and Caryl's solo ''Steddfod
Yn Yr Wyddgrug' on the other (2). It received sleeve credits on another
single, 'Annwyl Ser' b/w 'Ser' by Hogia'r Docia (Recordiau Ser, SER-001; 1980) -
all those 'e's should have circumflexes - and at least three albums
featuring music and / or songs from the company's television programmes:
'Caneuon Sion a Sian' by Dai Jones and Jenny Ogwen (Wren, WRL-559; 1976);
'Kidnapped' by Vladimir Cosma (Decca, MOR-R-525; 1979); and 'The Dragon Has Two
Tongues' by Robin Williamson (Towerbell, TVLP-001; 1985). The logo also
appeared on the cover of another Decca album, 'The Story Of 'Kidnapped'
by Brian Pettifer (DPA-6307 / 6308; 1979. Thanks to Nicholas Hough
for supplying the Sain / HTV scan.
