IMPULSE STUDIO
One of the labels of the Impulse Sound Recording Studio, of
Wallsend, Newcastle. The Impulse Studio label appears to have been
responsible for a couple of 7" records, if catalogue numbers are anything to go
by, but I've only managed to track down one of them. An EP by The Barrie
Brothers offering versions of 'Jean', 'Bridge Over Troubled Water', 'Put
Your Hand In The Hand' and 'You've Lost That Loving Feeling' came out in or
around 1974, with a catalogue number of BB/IS-1002; it seems to have run to two
pressings, as light-blue labelled versions exist, and it can also be found on
the Beverley Artistes label (q.v.), presumably as a reissue. The next in
the numerical series, IS/BB-1003, was also by The Barrie Brothers; it was a song
about Newcastle United and it came out on the Magpie label (q.v.),
logically enough, United's nickname being The Magpies. Subsequent 7"
records were mainly on the Wudwink label (q.v.), which replaced Impulse Studio
as the studio's main outlet. It seems logical to suppose that there was an
xx/IS-1001, with the 'xx' having some relation to the artist's name, but as yet
it has eluded me. If you know what it was I'd be glad to hear about it. Thanks to Nicholas Hough for providing the scan.
