JAY PEES
A one-off DIY label from
1976. The Jay Pees were a Rock / Pop band from Cheetham Hill,
Manchester. Band member Joe De Biase, in a posting on the Manchester
Beat site says that they changed their name
to Taxi, toured with the likes of The Rubettes and Showaddywaddy and made several LPs; these appear
to have been only released in Germany - a list, illustrations and
song samples can be found on the '70s
Teenpop blogspot. The band sound moderately young on these two tracks: 'Down Town Girl' has a
slight Country Rock feel, while 'Electric Chair' is Rockier. The catalogue number, HP-53, was one of a series used by the Stag
Music company (q.v.) for its custom recordings, and pressing was by Phonodisc.
