JBC

A Reggae label, though it wan't intended that way.  An article in 'Music Week' of the 29th of April 1978 said that JBC had signed Reggae band Jedethum to a long-term deal, and had also signed two 'Disco' bands from the East End of London - Light Of The World and The Basement Band.  A single by Jedethum, 'When You Gonna Stop' (JBC-601), was 'out now', and singles from the other bands were expected in May.  For some reason those other singles never appeared, and the next JBC record was a Bunny Brown single, 'I Love The Way You Love' (JBC-602; 1978).  Presumably it was a reissue: it had appeared on the Atra label in December 1975, as ATRA-24.  Those two, sadly, seem to have been the company's only releases.  Pressing of both was by Orlake; distribution was by independents including Relay, 1-Stop, Mojo and Clyde Factors.  Light Of The World went on to sign to Ensign Records the following year and they hit the lower reaches of the singles' charts six times during 1979-81, which suggests that JBC may have missed out by not getting their single to the shops.
