LRP
LRP Records was the label of independent production
company London Radio Productions, and it was based in Fulham, at 105-107 Dawes Road. 'Music
Week' of the 14th of April 1979, commenting on LRP's launch,
said that the company reckoned that with the market currently being preoccupied
with New Wave and Disco there was a gap for MOR Pop, and the first single
on its label, The Softrock's, 'Ciao Bambino' b/w 'Lady Bug Jive' (LRP-1), was
aimed at that gap. The music director
for the new venture was band member Tim Hollier,
who had written both sides of the single, and the
plan was for more material in a similar vein to be produced and
released. Distribution of the single was by Spartan. 'MW' of the
28th of April added that The Softrock's performance of 'Ciao Bambino'
had recently won the Cavan International Song Festival.
Despite the plans LRP's first release seems to have also been its last. The
Softrock continued as a group, but their next single, 'The Fool' b/w 'Flight
Of Fantasy' came out in August on Monarch Records (q.v.) as MON-01
. 'MW' of the 17th of May 1980 commented that the associated
publishing company Softrock Music was closely allied to The Songwriters Workshop
(q.v.), and then 'MW' of the 31st reported that Tim Hollier was
launching a new label, DB Records. First album on the new label was 'Ice
Cream, Blue Jeans And Diamonds' by The Softrock (DBLP-1). DB went on to
add seven singles to its catalogue but doesn't appear to have survived into 1982.
