LSO

Borderline, this one, as it's presumably a promotional record - the
picture sleeve has 'Recorded specially for Lenz Moser' on it, Lenz Moser being a
wine producing company. I don't usually include promotional records on
this site, unless as examples of records made by actual record companies (such
as Lyntone): there are a lot of them, and I'm not convinced that one-offs on,
for example, the 'T.S.B.' or 'British Industrial Sand' labels, with songs and
blurb about the company, deserve a page to themselves. I have,
however, made an exception in the case of I.C.I. (q.v.), as the material on
the records themselves doesn't make any reference to the company for which they
were made; and besides, in the case of I.C.I. there was a series of such
records. There was only one record on the LSO label, as far as I have been
able to discover, but as was the case with I.C.I. the vinyl grooves don't
contain any reference to the firm that was responsible for it. It has a
proper catalogue number, too, LSO-1001, and not one borrowed from the company
which pressed it - CBS. I have made an executive decision, therefore, and
allowed LSO the same lattitude that I allowed to I.C.I.. The London
Symphony Orchestra made many recordings for other labels, but, as I say, 'The
Blue Danube Waltz' b/w 'Champagne Polka' seems to have been the only one to
appear on their 'own' label. As can be seen from the scan, it was made in
1978. According to the sleeve, Lenz Moser had sponsored the LSO's New
Year's Day Strauss Concert at the Royal Albert Hall, and that led to the
recording of this single.
