MOTOR CITY RHYTHM
A small independent label from
Moseley, Birmingham. Motor City Rhythm operated out of 196, Wake
Green Road, the same address as DNS Records (q.v), which hints that the two were
closely related. Catalogue numbers suggest that Motor City Rhythm issued
at least six singles in 1979-80, but googling fails to reveal any even-numbered
records, which is suspicious. One of the singles (the first?), Leargo's 'Played
Out Angel' b/w 'The Artist', which came out in 1979, used a number from DNS's series, DNS-87903, but the rest had their own dedicated
MCR-100 series. The music covered a variety of styles, from the New
Wave / Punk of The Daze's 'I Wanna Be A Star' b/w 'At The Seaside' (MCR-101; 1979) through the Reggae
of 'She's Gone' b/w 'Hard Day's Night' by Eclipse (MCR-103; 1980) to the NWOBHM of
Starfighter's 'I'm Falling' b/w 'Heaven And Hell' (MCR-105; 1980). The labels
of the two issues from 1980 were black-on-red rather than black-on-light-blue.
All four singles are collectable, the Daze one especially so. Thanks to
Nicholas Hough for the scan.
