OLYMPIC (OR prefix)

An American label owned by Gary Thompson, Olympic specialized in Rockabilly.  It concentrated on licensing and reissuing vintage tracks but it also put out some new material.  Its first record - a single produced by Thompson - came out in 1975, and its last - a compilation LP - in 1981.  It was based in Milford, Michigan until the late summer of 1978, at which point it moved to Alvin, Texas.  The vast majority of its releases were USA-only, but at least one of them, 'Rock Rock' b/w 'Long Blonde Hair' by Johnny Powers with Stan Getz & Tom Cats (OR-009; 9/76), was given a Canadian release.  That single was also picked up by UK Rockabilly company Record Mart, which led to a special pressing with orange labels instead of the yellow of the American issue or the buff of the Canadian.  These singles had the Canadian address at the top of their labels but had the credit 'Distributed by Record Mart England' added.  They also had the original release date on them, 'Sept 1, 1976', but it seems likely that they came out later than that here.  For other Record Mart releases see RM, Doré, Antler, Yucca, and Glee.
