OMNIA
Rather obscure, this
one. Omnia appears to have been one of the labels of Cambar
Productions, a company set up in April 1975 by Joseph Campbell
and David Barnes. The only record on it that I have been able to
track down is the one shown above, an anonymous rendering of 'The Count Worm
Song' backed with Michael Hordern telling 'The Count Worm
Story'; the catalogue number of that record, CB-002, suggests
that there ought to be at least one more Omnia / Cambar out there but Googling
has failed to dredge it up. In its better-known form 'Count Worm' is a
book for young children, written by Roger Hargreaves, the creator of the 'Mr.
Men'. The book seems to have been first published in November 1978, so the
'1977' on the record requires explaining; it's possible that the record came out
first, but it seems slightly odd. Presumably, being aimed at
children, the single came with a picture sleeve or a booklet
originally. In 1980 Campbell, Barnes and Paul Hart formed Cambar Music,
which concentrated on producing jingles and music for television. Cambar
placed several singles with other labels, including 'Wurzel's Song' by Jon
Pertwee on Decca (F-13885; 1/80) and Alex 'Hurricane' Higgins singing
'One-Four-Seven' on Solid (STOP-003, 6/82) but it also put one out on its own
Cambar Records label, in 1981 - 'Pride of Bambergh' by Jon Pertwee & Tom Matthews (CAM-1).
