OPAL

A Reggae label, part of
the NEMS group (q.v.). According to 'Music Week' of the 20th of
September 1975 Opal was to be an outlet for product licensed from the Jamaican
'Wild Flower' company, but it sourced records from other companies towards the
end. It issued ten singles in 1975-76, in a PAL-0 series; PAL-3 seems not
to have been released. Marketing was by NEMS, pressing and distribution
by CBS. The label enjoyed Chart success in 1976 with Pluto Shervington's,
'Dat' (PAL-5), but seems not to have survived NEMS's move to RCA.
