PATHEWAY
Patheway appears to have
been a relative of the American label of the same name, which operated in the
late '60s and early '70s in the USA and which released a number of sides which
are of interest to collectors of Soul records. I wasn't able to find
a connection with the UK Patheway, but happily
Jon Hendrix of RYM has come up with one. 'Billboard' of the 12th of April 1969
reports that Patheway Productions was run by Phil Gillin and Bret Kennedy; and Phil Gillin
is credited as co-producer of the 1970 Reflection Records album
'People's People' by Andwella. Our Patheway label came under the Reflection umbrella, so it seems
plausible that Gillin's involvement with Reflection led to the appearance of Patheway over here. The UK Patheway
was formed to handle material from the
Proclaim and Revival catalogues, and is reported in 'Music
Week' to have had 50 LPs under its control
in 1972, at which point its managing director was David Thornton-Pickering. As far
as singles are concerned it seems to have issued just four, all
of them in 1971, using a PAT-100 numbering series. Of interest is a record by actor Stuart Damon,
'There's A Light' (PAT-102). See also 'Reflection', 'Revival' and 'Acclaim'. Pressing and distribution were by Pye,
Reflection having signed a deal with that company in February
1971. Thanks to Jon for provinding the Phil Gillin
link.
