PEACHTREE
American. Along
with the Azrock music publishing company, Peachtree was owned by Bel-Wyn
management, which belonged to Soul artist William Bell and his manager, Henry
Wynn. It was based in Atlanta, and it issued records from 1969-72 in the
USA. The only UK-pressed single on the label dates from a few years
after, 1976. Mitty Collier's 'Share What You Got' b/w 'I'd Like To Change
Places' kept the P-122 catalogue number of the original American issue, which
came out in December 1969. The style of the matrix number suggests
that manufacture was by Pye. Richard C. has provided an intriguing
note about the single for the 45cat site, one which casts considerable doubt on
it being a British issue. It's worth repeating here, in full -
"The Peachtree Mitty Collier record was pressed in the UK by Global Records of Manchester but almost all the thousand copies made went to a dealer in The Netherlands, who had ordered it. Around ten copies were available from HMV in Manchester but it was not officially available from any other shops. So to list it as a UK label could be borderline...."
'Borderline' is probably generous, but for the sake of
interest - and for the sake of those ten or so copies that were sold in HMV
Manchester - I'll let Peachtree keep its page on this site. Thanks to
Klepsie of the 45cat site for bringing Peachtree to my attention in the first place.
