PRINCE BUSTER
A Reggae label. Prince Buster was owned by the
artist of that name; it seems to have operated from
1970-c.76, issuing approximately forty singles in the process. Catalogue numbering was in
a PB-0 series and reached PB-66, but a lot
of the numbers appear not to have been used - some seem only to exist as blank
white labelled promo copies. PB-1, 'Big Five', by Price Buster, is dated 1967 but was
actually released in 1970; it was reissued / re-pressed several times and can be found in
a variety of label colours - the red-and-black label (5) appears to be from
one of the re-pressings. The label kept to one basic design, which was
usually coloured red-and-white, but some singles from 1972 can be found
with red-and-yellow labels (3). A few of the later singles,
such as PB-42, 48 and 66, had very basic white typewritten labels (4). The first and fourth scans
come by courtesy of Charlie Chalk of the 45cat site, and
John Timmis kindly supplied the third, while the others, which look like Orlake
pressings, appear by courtesy of Robert Bowes. See also 'Buster'.
