PUNILUX
One of those
'borderline' cases where a major company gives an artist their own 'label', the
major in this case being United Artists and the artists Newcastle
Post-Punk outfit Punishment Of Luxury. On this occasion, however, the
logo is different to the name of the artist, which wasn't the case elsewhere -
see 'Elvis', 'Slim Whitman 25th Anniversary' and 'Brinsley Schwarz' among
others. No other sites on the Net appear to treat the single 'Secrets' b/w
'Brainbomb' (UP-36537; 7/79) as being on the Punilux label; it is invariably
listed under 'United Artists'. Nevertheless, it passes my 'Artist name as
logo + Artist name in the same font as the title' qualifying test and therefore
had to be awarded a page on this site. One piece of evidence in support of
my decision is that a CD called '5', released by the reformed
Punishment Of Luxury in 2011, was credited to Punilux records. If they
view it as a proper label, I reckon I may be excused for doing so. The
band made two other singles and an album for United Artists in 1979-80, all of
which had the standard United Artists labels.
