REVOLUTION POP
Revolution had fingers in several pies. It had
separate labels for Rocksteady / Reggae, Soul, Pop and Classical music
(q.v. all); Revolution Pop seems to have been the
shortest-lived of the four, running to just three singles. The same basic design was shared
by all four labels, but their colours were different. Mark Griffiths gives Revolution's owners'
names as Dave Hadfield and John Harper; Dave Hadfield ran the Maximum Sound Studios,
later known as 'The Workhouse'. Initially distribution of
Revolution records was by Immediate (q.v.) but 'Record Retailer' of the
11th of July 1970 reports that a three-year distribution deal had been
signed with RCA. It also says that
some product would be handled by the BIRD
group - an association of independent distributors including H.R. Taylor
and Lugton's. Unfortunately it doesn't say which; but several of
the Classical records (which were mainly albums) definitely went through RCA. Thanks
to Robert Bowes for the scans.
