RIC-RAC SOUND

A studio in Leeds, formed by Mike Robson and Alan Young.  Ric-Rac Sound - the name can be found without the hyphen, or without the 'Sound' - appears to have begun arranging for records to be made in 1978.  The first two were made through Pollen Records (q.v.), of Haxby.  An EP by Paul Allen, which offered versions of 'Indian Love Call' and 'Cattle Call' in addition to the two tracks shown on the scan above, was numbered RRS-001 and came out in 1978; RRS-002, 'Nomads' b/w 'Blind Man' by Rock band Pheetus, followed in 1979.  Both had typical Pollen labels.  In the case of the Allen EP there's only the RRS catalogue number to distinguish it from Pollen releases (Pollens were numbered in the PBM-000s), but the Pheetus single carried a credit to Ric-Rac Productions.  That credit, and the distinctive catalogue series, convinced me that these two Ric-Rac Sound records deserved a page of their own.  1979 saw Ric-Rac debuting its Luggage label (see Luggage, RRP/ACE/XTL prefixes), which had a far less ambiguous appearance.  Thanks to John Timmis for providing the scan.
