RM DELUXE SERIES
The lesser of two labels out of Derek Glenister's 'Record Mart'
shop in Southend-On-Sea. Despite the claim in its title, it appears that
the RM Deluxe Series ran to just the one release, 'Sweet Rockin' Baby' b/w 'Rock
Ola Ruby' by Sonee West, which had a catalogue number of RMDL-2000 and came out
in 1978. As was the case with singles on the main RM label, the tracks
were obscure Rockabilly / Rock 'n' Roll items licensed from American companies
or artists - the original came out on Norman Petty's Nor-Ja-Vik label in 1956 -
and the pressing was done in America, presumably to give the records a more
authentic appearance. The 'Deluxe' claim was justified by the fact that
the Sonee West single had a picture sleeve with a biography on it whereas
standard RM singles almost always came in plain white die-cut sleeves.
West went on to write two songs made famous by Buddy Holly, 'Oh Boy' and 'Rave
On'.
