SABANOH SOUNDS
Sabanoh Sounds was one of three labels brought into being
by producer Akie Deen (who was from Sierra Leone) in order to promote West
African music in London; the other two were Afrodisc and Rokel (q.v. both). It dates from around 1976-77, and it
appears to have been a vehicle for records by the band Sabanoh 75. Its singles were generally numbered in the SB75-100s, though the
'75' part could be omitted; some had injection moulded labels (1), others had paper
ones. Pressing of the injection-moulded items was by Phonodisc, and
according to 'Music Master' distribution of some of the records was through
Jama. The colour of the paper labels varied: SB-104 was yellow with red
printing. See also Sabanoh International. Thanks to Robert Bowes for the scan
of the paper label, and to Christophe Simplex for discographical input.
