SAMS
Uncertain, this one, but I think
it's worth including. The South American Missionary Service put out two EPs
by a Christian group from Paraguay, Los Picaflores, in or
around 1968, on the Sky Sounds label. The second of those EPs can also be
found on the SAMS label, as pictured above. 'Discogs' says that this was
an export issue, intended for South America, but I'm not totally convinced -
there doesn't seem to be a Sky Sounds label in South America, so there wouldn't
be any conflict if the UK copies on Sky Sounds were exported there; and
there are minor differences in the company details on the rear of the picture cover,
which are difficult to explain if both versions of the EP were made at the same
time. It is known that one record on the SAMS label came out in 1970: Los
Picaflores paid a second visit to this country in that year and the
Society put out an album by them, 'Los Picaflores From Paraguay' (SAMS,
HB-7001). I suspect that this EP was a re-pressing of the Sky Sounds
version, put out at the same time as the LP and for the same reason -
because of the presence of the group. None of the tracks on it are on the
album, so if there was some demand for them this would have been a way of
responding to it. I can't prove that this was a UK release from 1970, and
therefore I can't be sure that SAMS has a place on this site, but
it's enough of a possibility for me to allow it a page, pending clarification.
