SILVER DOLLAR (NORTHERN)

A sister-label to the London-based strict-tempo label Silver
Dollar. The seven Northern releases
that I have seen have been reissues
of Silver Dollar EPs: I have listed them below, but there may be others out
there. They had the original issue dates
on their
labels, which doesn't help us with regard to when
they were issued, but as one was a reissue of a record
which first came out in 1970 that at least gives us a 'some time
after' point. The records came in sleeves with a handstamp of distributors
Nothern Dance Services on them (3, 4) rather than in Silver Dollar company sleeves, which suggests
that Silver Dollar may have stopped distributing their own records by that time. If that is
the case, Northern records would be from 1976 at the earliest. The EPs kept the old catalogue
numbers but were given a new prefix, SDN, and a different
artist credit, to Ernest Wilson And His Old Time Orchestra. At least one
issue combined one side each from two different
EPs, SDX-3922 and SDX-3942, and combined their catalogue numbers into
SDN-3922-42 (2).
