SNOW
Snow appears to have issued just two records, Taboo's
'Loopy Pooof...' b/w 'Heavy Gear' (ADM-760; 1972) and a version of the old
Monkees' song '(I'm Not) Your Stepping Stone' b/w 'Great Balls Of Fire' by Outer
Limits. The numbers CE/74 and DEROY-1049 appear on the label of the latter, as can
be seen on the scan - the 'press-out' markings are printed. The DEROY and ADM prefixes indicate
that custom recording company Deroy was responsible for the recording; the '74' seems
to be an indication of the year of issue, as
DEROYs 1040 and 1046 came out in that year. Both singles command large sums of
money, the Outer Limits one reputedly being a 'mega rare psych monster';
so if you see either in a car boot sale, grab
it - though the discovery of an unsold batch of 'Your Stepping Stone' around
the start of the 2020s does however seem to have
brought its value down, to a certain extent. Both were produced by Ashley Firth,
so it seems a reasonable bet that he was behind the Snow label. Thanks
to Sam Mauger for bringing Snow to my attention and for Rob Bowes for letting
me know about the Taboo record.
