SOVEREIGN COLLECTION
A DIY label from the mid
'70s, featuring songs by a group of girls calling themselves the Sovereign
Collection. An instrumental ensemble of the same name recorded
for Capitol and Sovereign (q.v. both) during the first half of the '70s and
enjoyed a minor hit with 'Mozart 40' b/w 'Hullabaloo Of The Butterflies'
(CL-15676; 3/71), but the two outfits were distinct. Our Sovereign
Collection was responsible for a couple of singles on the De Lane Lea Music
Centre label (q.v.), one of which, 'Say It Once Again' b/w 'A Day Like
Yesterday', also came out on the group's own label, numbered SC-2 and housed in
a picture sleeve. There's no date on the record, but the pressing marks on
it appear on singles pressed by Orlake between 1974 and 1976, so 1975 seems
like a reasonable bet. The songs feature harmony vocals backed
by acoustic guitar, and the singles in their various forms are collectable. One of the tracks from the first single, 'Rolling In Love', featured
on an album by the Highfield
Children's Home choir, 'Where Is Love' (National Children's Home Records, NCH-4). The
Discogs site gives the matrix number of that first single as SCLE-1, and the 45Cat site dates it in 1972.
