STAR (1973-84)
A member of the Pama group. The only single on the Star label
that I have seen in the vinyl is the first one shown above, 'The Touch Of Love',
by Shelly; it was listed under 'Reggae' but it turned out to be Orchestrated Pop
of the Sandie Shaw variety. It had the catalogue number STAR-2, and
it dates from 1973. As yet the identity of STAR-1 - if there was one
- remains to be discovered. A second series of Star singles appeared from
1978-c.84, this time as a product of the Palmer Brothers' new Jet Star
company; these were numbered in the PTP-1000s and seem to have come out mainly
in the 12" format, though at least one 7" appeared: the Tapper Zukie &
Horace Andy record shown above, 'Natty Dread A Weh She Want' (PTP-1020;
1979). Thanks to Robert Bowes for that scan.
