STINGRAB
A DIY label, apparently
a one-off. An EP by a Country group called Contraband seems to have
been Stingrab's only release; the tracks on it were versions of 'If Not You',
'Old Shep', 'Apache' and 'Gypsy Woman', and it came out in 1977. Its
catalogue number was STINGRAB-23, which suggests that there might be other Stingrabs
out there, but Googling reveals no trace of any others in that series.
The style of the labels suggests that the manufacturer also pressed Alvic Recordings (q.v.). There's no obvious connection between this band and the band of the same
name who had a single out on Pirate Records (q.v.) some six years earlier,
though they were both Country outfits; the vocalist sounds different, for one
thing. Any more information (where the name came from, in particular - a
misprint? Four members, two initials each?) would be welcome.
