STRYKA
Almost as basic as a record design can
get. Stryka seems to have been a DIY effort; the method of company
identification consisted of printed sticky labels put onto a standard white
label, which is pure DIY. Rory Blackwell's EP featuring 'Help Me
Make It Through The Night', 'Feelings', 'Daddy Don't
You Walk So Fast' and 'Drum Rhapsody' appears to have been the only
release on Stryka. There is no date on the
label, but Steve Hill, who drew the EP to my attention, assures
me that it dates from the 1970s and I'm quite prepared
to bow to his superior knowledge. The catalogue number on the run-off is
BP-001, the matrix number P-2065. This same EP can be found
with a sticker on it crediting it to 'Uncle Rory's Records' (q.v.). Blackwell
also had a single out on his own 'Rory' label (q.v.) in 1976, featuring two of
these tracks, 'Daddy' and 'Drum Rhapsody'; presumably it pre-dated this
by a year or two. In addition he had an album
out on Ellie Jay (q.v.) in 1978, 'Two Sides Of Rory Blackwell'.
