STUPET
London based, and apparently a one-off. A football song, 'Our Crystal Palace'
by The Crystal Band, appears to have been Stupet's sole
release. It was backed with a song called 'U.S.A.' and it had a catalogue
number of STU-67. There are no dates on the labels but happily the 'A'
side mentions the names of manager Terry Venables and players Kenny Sansom and
David Swindelhurst; they had all moved on by the autumn of 1980, so it's a good
bet that the song is from 1979, the year that Palace won the Second Division
title. The 'Stu' of the label name presumably relates to co-writer and
co-producer Stuart Carbran; if the 'P' of co-writer P. Baum stood for Peter,
that would account for the 'pet' part. Co-producer Keith Bonsoir was
responsible for a good number of other songs and productions, but the only other
K.P.S. Productions record that I have been able to trace came out on the Plant
Music label (q.v.) in 1979 - it was a version of 'My Favourite Things' b/w
'Sexy, Sexy, Sexy' by Valentine (50007).
