ST. ANDREWS RENAISSANCE GROUP

A DIY label of a rather different sort to most of those of the 1970s.  The EP shown above, featuring works by Byrd, Deering, Morley and Palestrina, is the only one that I have been able to trace on the St. Andrews Renaissance Group label - if indeed that is the name of the label; there is no actual name on the record or the cover except that of the group, so I have had to use that.  According to the cover the recordings were made in April 1972; presumably the record was issued not long after that.  As can be seen, the catalogue number was RUS-300.  The matrix number, DER EP 873, indicates a Deroy (q.v.) product, and the actual labels have been pasted on to the record - a common Deroy practice.  The Renaissance Group, which was founded in 1955 and is still (2011) in existence, is made up of staff and students from the University of St. Andrews.
