SUMMIT

A Reggae label; part of the Trojan group.  Summit was dedicated to Leslie Kong productions.  It issued records from 1970 to 1973, in an SUM-8500 series, and is most often met with in the form of its biggest seller, the Melodians' 'Rivers of Babylon'.  As is often the case with Trojan's earlier subsidiary labels, it initially came in a plain form (1) but from the second single onwards it was given a later more ambitious design (2).  The text 'Made in England' appeared on records from the 9th of April 1971 onwards, starting with SUM-8521.  Manufacture would probably have been by Orlake, as it was for most of Trojan's associated labels.  Thanks to Robert Bowes for the scan of the blue label.
