SUPER SIX

In the '60s and '70s there were several labels which offered cheap EPs containing cover versions of current hits: Avenue and its successor Forest (q.v. both) were the most prolific in the Seventies, with Top Six having that honour in the Sixties.  There were shorter-lived ones, such as Top Ten and Flair; some, like Deacon (q.v.), concentrated on LPs, while one label, Double Top (q.v.), released singles.  Super Six seems to have been a contender for the shortest-lived 'covers' label, as it appears to have put out just one record, an EP by the Mike Morton Congregation.  In addition to the tracks shown on the scan the EP offered versions of 'I'm Gonna Run Away From You', 'Me And You And A Dog Named Boo' and 'The Banner Man'.  It came out in 1971, and its catalogue number was SS-1001.  Five of the tracks can be found on the Plexium Records (q.v.) album 'Nonstop Top 20, Vol. 2' (PXMS-1003; 6/71); the missing one, 'Don't Let It Die', followed on 'Nonstop Top 20, Vol. 3' (PXMS-1004; 8/71).  The EP came in an envelope-style sleeve, which suggests that it may possibly have been available by mail order.  What prompted its release and whether any more issues were planned remain to be discovered.  Thanks to Klepsie of the 45cat site for bringing Super Six to my attention, and to Nicholas Hough for providing the scan.
