SUPER STAR

A DIY label from 1979, apparently a one-off.  A single by Jag, 'I'm Nearly Famous Now' b/w 'If You Walked Away', seems to have been Super Star's only release.  Each side had its own number, the 'A' being 001 and the 'B' 002.  Sadly, fame and super stardom seem to have eluded Jag, despite the tongue-in-cheek claims of the record label, but at least he left his mark on the history of recorded music.  Eddie Hutchinson has kindly written in to say that 'If You Walked Away' made No.2 on Kenny Everett's Bottom 30 for the year 1980, and that there were rumours that 'Jag' was Cliff Richard deliberately singing off-key.  There were even doubts as to whether the single was real or a spoof by Everett, but Steve Mitchell chased up the people at B.T.W. studios for the '45 Revolutions' book and they assured him that Jag was a genuine artist.  Given my own lack of musical ability I'm not in any position to comment on the quality of the disc, but I have a sneaking admiration anybody who has the guts and the drive to make a record of their own - and besides, they make the world of record labels so much more interesting.  Thanks to Eddie and Steve for the information; thanks also to Klepsie of the 45cat site for bringing Super Star to my attention, and to Mystdrf of the same site for allowing me to use his scan.
