SURREY ROAD

An obscurity.  All that I know about Surrey Road Records is that it was responsible for a single by Khristian Young, 'Boadicea' b/w 'Sayonara' (PSR-115), and I wouldn't know that if James Denholm of the Worthless Trash website hadn't alerted me to the appropriate entry on Robin Wills's Purepop blogspot for February 2024.  Robin - who was kind enough to provide the scan - gives 1973 as the release year and makes a good case for Khristian Young actually being Barry Rolfe.  He says that a version of 'Sayonara' can be found as the 'B' side of Rolfe's 'Look The Business' single under the title 'Molly Molly' (Philips, 6006-331, 8/73; reissued as 6006-524, 9/76), and points out that a version of 'Boadicea' appeared on the 'B' side of Rolfe's 'Beam Me Up Aboard, Mr. Spock' single (Philips, 6006-348; 11/73).  The Progressive Sound Recording mentioned on the label was a studio owned by Bob Bloomfield and was based at 593, High Road, Leyton, E.10 - 'Beat International' magazine of June 1969 described it as 'new'.  The catalogue number of the Khristian Young single suggests that there ought to be other PSR-100 series records out there but I haven't been able to find any.  The only other Progressive Sound Recording record that googling comes up with is an album by Blooblo, 'Reggae Party Time', which came out in 1973 on Polydor's budget-priced 'Contour' label (2870-338).  Thanks to James and Robin for making this page possible.
